JSON Formatter

Format, validate, and minify JSON online for free.

How to use

  1. Paste JSON into the input box.
  2. Select Format / Validate to pretty-print it and check for syntax errors.
  3. Use Minify to remove unnecessary whitespace, or copy the result.

Format or minify JSON: what changes?

Paste JSON into the input box and choose Format / Validate to check its syntax and display it with readable indentation. Choose Minify to remove formatting whitespace from the parsed value. Both actions preserve the JSON data represented by the input; they change how that data is written.

Use formatted JSON while inspecting data

Indented output makes nested objects and arrays easier to scan in code reviews, configuration files, and API responses. Property order is kept as parsed by the browser, but formatting does not sort keys or explain what fields mean. Use the output as a readable representation, not as a semantic diff.

Use minified JSON for compact transport

Minified output is useful when a system expects compact JSON text. It removes spaces and line breaks that are not needed between JSON tokens; it does not compress the data or encrypt it. The resulting file can still contain the same sensitive values as the input.

Fix common syntax errors

JSON uses double quotes around property names and strings, does not allow trailing commas, and has no comment syntax. If validation fails, check the reported position and inspect the surrounding brackets, quotes, and commas. This tool parses and formats the text in your browser. Do not paste credentials or private records into a page unless you are allowed to process them there.
